I started couponing a few weeks ago. Well, actually, I used to clip coupons a long time ago. I remember the little envelope-accordion-type folders that were sectioned off into various categories. I sat down and clipped coupons every week. I remember that it was time consuming and sometimes, the savings were just not worth it.
Well, couponing has taken on a different look. Today I used a site called southernsavers.com. The manager of the site goes through the weekly sales papers and coupons and tells you what's on sale and where you can find a coupon for it. Sounds simple right? Well, it isn't. It took me about three weeks to get the hang of it.
It has been quite an experience and I must say, even though I spend a little time doing it, the savings are great! I'm going to use this blog to document my experience with couponing. Perhaps it will help someone else save a few pennies.
A penny saved is a penny earned! Many years ago my friend was a coupon champion, and that was before the web. She would have us all bring our newspapers to work so she could cut out all the coupons. Next she filed the coupons in a recipe box alphabetically by product name. When she would make her grocery list she would clip the applicable coupons right to it. I was always amazed at her organization and the amount of money she saved every week! I hope you keep a spreadsheet of how much you save during this process. Another question I have for you, do you teach band? If so, do you still require practice slips! Happy clipping and saving! Jody S (Mother Hen)
ReplyDeleteHey, I've thought about a spreadsheet, but never did it. I guess I'll start on that. I try to buy only if it's on sale AND with a coupon, so I can usually save about 1/2. I haven't done it so much that I leave paying nothing!
ReplyDeleteI don't teach band. I'm not sure if they still require practice slips. I would think that some type of practice log is used.
I am excited to follow you through your couponinig, I have to say that I am horriable when it comes to coupons! I try to do my best when grocery shopping to buy the cheaper product, but that is about all I do. I think you will be my inspiration!
