I have had a crazy week of medical stuff! I have had two tests and my Mom was admitted to the hospital. As a matter of fact, I’m typing this from her room. Hopefully, she’ll go home tomorrow!
Because I haven’t been shopping, I thought I’d write about things that you should NEVER pay full price for! As a matter of fact, not even half price. These are things that you should stock up on because they are dirt cheap!
When I started couponing, I read that the sales run in cycles. Sure enough, they do. Here’s a list of things that I have stocked up on after paying nothing, or next to nothing for them:
1. Contact Lens solution – I don’t wear them, but I get it and give it to family.
2. Cereal – my son is a BIG cereal eater. Translate, too lazy to cook for himself. These tend to rotate. For example, Bi-Lo may have General Mills this week, Kellog’s the next, then Post. Never fail!!! You use a coupon from the newspaper (usually $1.00 off 2 boxes) and print one from the internet and I never pay more than $1.50 per box!
3. Deodorant – another double couponer and get it on sale! This is good if you’re not too picky about brands. The men’s brands are almost ALWAYS on sale.
4. Body wash – This is another gem. CVS and Walgreens will often offer include these in their cash reward programs. Example: The store offers it buy one and get one free. I use a $$ off coupon and a buy one get one coupon and it’s free!!!
5. Toothpaste – I have so many tubes now I use Sensodyne that is not often on sale, but I’ll buy Colgate or Crest for my children. Remember, use the coupons when it’s on sale!
6. Toilet Paper and Paper towels – This stuff is never next to nothing, but you can always use two coupons for it.
7. Peanut butter – another staple for my son. Even he thought we had a bit too much.
8. Dog food – there’s no way to find it cheap, but there’s always a coupon available, so no more paying full price!
Okay, that’s it for tonight! Happy shopping! Check out those papers! Oh, another secret. You can shop CVS sales on Saturday night before they are published on Sunday. So when you go on Saturday, you can actually shop from two sales papers!
Happy Shopping!!!

This was an interesting week for couponing. My results are below. I must say I’m getting pretty good at shopping at Bi-Lo. I have absolutely NO problem with coupons there. Walgreens, however, was a different story. I tried to use $8 reward from a previous purchase and it wouldn’t take. The manager had to come over . She couldn’t figure out why, so they voided the order, entered the coupon first then everything took. I got $10 reward from that transaction and tried to use six “manufacturer” coupons for six items. Obviously, the $10 (a $2 plus an $8) are considered manufacturer coupons also. So because I had 8 manufacturer coupons and only six items, I couldn’t use it. I realized later that I should have divided that into two transactions. Oh well, live and learn.
The irony is, I go grocery shopping and don’t feel like cooking, so we end up grabbing fast food! I’m going to work on that. My daughter has told me not to bring home any more soap, deodorant, toilet paper, or cereal! I must say I went crazy on the cereal at Bi-Lo. My son loves Cinnamon Toast Crunch and it’s sooooo expensive. Bi-Lo had it B1G1 (buy 1, get 1) and I had several $1.00/2 coupons, so I bought 6 boxes, then I had a $.55 off Honey Nut Cheerios, so I bought that. It was also B1G1. The good thing about Bi-Lo is when they offer B1G1, you can get just one of the items at half price.
That’s it for this week. Happy shopping.

This is a quick post. I’ve noticed that there are just some things that are always FREE or close to it. Contact lens solution is one of those things. I don’t wear them, but I have three sisters and a niece who wear them. So, this post is about a couple of freebies that I just got from Walgreens.
1st Transaction: Vitamins - $10.00 (10.00 reward); Bayer AM -$3.49 (sale price), $1.50 coupon…paid $12.93
2nd Transaction: Visine $4.49 ($2.00 off, in-store coupon; $2.00 mfg coupon); Contact solution $7.99 ($8.00 reward); Splenda-$2.99 (sale price; $1.00 coupon)…Subtract $10.00 reward from 1st transaction and paid $1.23 (and received $8.00 reward on future purchase).
I think that’s clear as mud!
So, the moral of the story is…if you need contact lens solution or multivitamins, go to Walgreens!!!
Happy shopping…Chandra
